Transportation Department Overview

Castro Valley is fortunate to have a home-to-school transportation program. The Transportation Department safely transports an average of 350 students per day to and from school. We also transport students on field trips and district sports teams to and from games.

Our Goal

  • To have a safe and reliable fleet of school buses and special education vans.
  • To provide the students with properly maintained equipment in a clean environment.
  • To utilize all training resources available to give drivers and mechanics the tools needed to meet and exceed department standards.
  • To maintain a transportation department that the School District, staff and community can be proud of.
How do you become a school bus driver?

To be qualified as a school bus driver you need to have a CDL (commercial driver's license) and a clean driving record. You will also have to complete special training. Because school bus drivers work with children, you will need to pass a background check.

The California Department of Education, in compliance with EC 39831.3, requires the District Office and all school sites to have a Transportation Safety Plan available for view at all times. A Transportation Safety Plan provides District employees, families, and students with procedures and guidelines to ensure the safe transportation of students.  The plan shall be revised as required on annual basis.
