    Become a Clinical Medical Assistant in the growing and demanding area of healthcare! This comprehensive, hands-on program will prepare you to take the state or national CMA examination, test prep included. Students will learn to perform clinical procedures including vital signs, preparing and administering injections, drawing blood, collecting specimens, taking electrocardiograms, recording and charting the patient history, learn the practical applications of the Electronic Medical Record, preparing patients for x-rays and examinations, applying bandages and dressings, learning medical terminology, learning medical terminology, learning the basics of medical administration, and career development. Students can expect to complete 6-8 hours of work outside of class time.

     

    Note: Upon successful completion of this program, the student will earn a competency-based certificate. Successful students who meet the requirements may be able to participate in the Medical Programs Externship program. 

    Prerequisite(s): Students must have earned a high school diploma or GED. Students must attend orientation and pass an assessment. Students must have basic computer and keyboard skills, as well as regular access to a computer and the internet to work within the online learning platform. The student is responsible for the cost of textbooks, uniforms, and supplies. Prior to acceptance into the program, students must complete the Required Medical Assistant Immunizations.

    This 3-month hybrid program will prepare students with entry-level skills needed to work in the front office of a healthcare facility by providing instruction and skill development in the daily operations of a medical office. Students will learn front office skills such as: management of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), introduction to health insurance, introduction to billing, reimbursement & account collections, healthcare law & ethics, telephone management, medical terminology basics, anatomy & physiology basics, and soft skills for success (e.g. professionalism, communication, career-building). This program prepares you for the National Center for Competency Testing Medical Office Assistant exam.

    Prerequisites: Students must have earned a high school diploma or GED. Students must watch a mandatory orientation and pass an assessment. Students must have basic computer and keyboard skills, as well as regular access to a computer and the internet to work within the online learning platform. The student is responsible for the cost of textbooks, uniforms, and supplies.

    Are you a natural advocate for others? Do you like finding resources that can improve the health of the people in your community? Learn the skills you need to work in this growing field and train to become a Community Health Worker! This comprehensive program will prepare you with the skills you need to work in various entry-level positions, including Transition Specialist, Care Coordinator, and Health Insurance and Housing or Patient Health Navigator.   • Introduction for Healthcare Careersflyer about an introduction to healthcare careers class

    Are you interested in a healthcare career and want to explore options? This online class is for people who want to explore healthcare careers while learning some of the basics about the body and medical terminology. The class is designed for a range of English levels, from High Intermediate ESL to fluent! If you do not know your English level, we will provide you with an English test. This course is completely online and free. In this class you will learn about:

    • Medical terms

    • Professional communication

    • A variety of healthcare jobs

    • Human body systems

    • Health and safety

    • Next steps for you!

These courses are offered 24/7, through our partner UGotClass, giving you the freedom to learn at your own pace. Many of the courses lead to certificates for in-demand professional skills.     For these online courses, after registering, on the Wednesday before the class begins, you will receive an invitation to join the class. You will not be placed in the class until you accept the invitation.

  • Our Wastewater Treatment Program provides students with a high-quality educational program taught by experienced instructors who work directly in the field. Learn the basics of how to operate and maintain a wastewater treatment plant under the supervision and instruction of a licensed plant operator. Students will learn safety, treatment processes, solids management, and an overview of regulations. Upon successfully completing the program, students will have the skills and knowledge required to sit for the Grade 1 or Grade 2 state certification. Both internship and externship opportunities are available with this training program.

  • EKG/ECG TechnicianAn advertisement for an EKG/ECG Technician course, featuring a stethoscope.

    An electrocardiograph technician, also known as an EKG/ECG technician, is an allied healthcare professional who uses specialized equipment to perform diagnostic tests to assess the patient's heart rhythm and rate. They conduct the tests and prepare the report for the physician. Physicians and other medical professionals can use this information to diagnose and treat a patient's cardiac health. This course includes: overview of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, proper patient preparation and administration of EKG that includes 12 lead placement, patient positioning, and troubleshooting, basics of how to obtain vital signs and assessment of emergencies related to cardiac testing, discussions on dysrhythmias and abnormal strips and protocol to follow, review stress testing and Holter monitoring devices, guidance on maintaining equipment and safety compliance, preparation for State and National certification exams.
