Happy holidays! While the days from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day always seem to be packed with activities like social gatherings and shopping, hope you made the time at Thanksgiving to truly give thanks for something in your life. As superintendent, I am always thankful that our Board of Education truly values and, more mportantly, supports lifelong earning through vibrant, relevant, and engaging Adult and Career Education programs. Special thanks go to Director Jerry Green for his commitment to maintain a high quality program that meets the needs of adult learners.
As a child, I always made a New Year’s resolution to work harder in school and earn all A’s. As an adult, one of my resolutions always is to learn something new – not hard in a world where information is doubling every 18 months, if not faster. Castro Valley Adult and Career Education is here to help you fulfill your New Year’s resolution to learn something new – just for the sake of learning or to improve your job skills or to find a job. There is something for everyone. Besides learning something new, you will meet other wonderful adults committed to lifelong learning.
Take a look at the new course offerings on the inside front cover and you will quickly see the changing world in which we live. I had to use a handheld light meter with my first 35mm camera; now, I work with Digital Photography in Adobe Photoshop. When I was young, Social Media meant a telephone on the wall with a party line, if not an operator. Surfing with Safari made me think of the Beach Boys.
The times have changed and growing older is not an excuse to stop learning. We have the classes to keep you moving in the 21st century. Join us this winter for a class.
Sincerely,
Jim Negri
