Superintendent’s Message
In the four months that I have worked for the Castro Valley Unified School District, I have had numerous opportunities to visit the great courses that Castro Valley Adult and Career Education offers our community and to observe our talented, outstanding and caring teachers. I have been inspired by the work of our staff with the students in the Adults with Disabilities Program as well as all the programs ranging from career and technical classes to the high school diploma/GED classes to the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. The entire staff is committed to the success of every student.

Besides my visits to classes, I recently was able to participate in the graduation ceremony for the high school diploma/GED program. I was thrilled to congratulate twenty-seven students who returned to school, some after many years, to earn a diploma or GED. Their stories and reasons for returning to school touched the hearts of everyone present.

I have also attended two graduation ceremonies for the Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA) Program. This program is an excellent example of how the Adult and Career Education Program is preparing individuals for meaningful employment. There are many other programs that prepare individuals for the workforce.

The other day, I was struck by the eagerness and attentiveness of students in the ESL Program who are working to master the English language. I could go on and on about the high quality, high interest programs in the Adult and Career Education Program, but encourage you to experience them first-hand by enrolling in a course.
