Returning ESL Student Instructions

Dear Castro Valley Adult Education ESL Student:

We are happy to tell you that we WILL be having ESL classes this fall! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes will be online distance learning for the fall quarter. There will be no ESL classes in our school classrooms for fall quarter.

To keep your returning student status, you MUST take a CASAS test now. If you do not, you may lose your place.

All students must take the CASAS reading test before starting class. The tests will be done at our school  in very small groups by appointment.

Testing appointments are available on Thursday, July 30, Wednesday, August 5 and Thursday, August 6.
To sign up for a testing appointment click on this link:

*You must sign up for a testing appointment in advance.

All students also need to complete a Health Screening Survey before your testing appointment. To complete the survey, click on the language: English, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic  No one will be allowed to test if they are sick or are unable to answer the health screening survey.

We are doing the following things to keep everyone safe and healthy:

  • Small number of test takers will allow for at least six feet of social distance in the classroom.
  • The testing room is cleaned prior to the test session.
  • All staff and testers must wear a mask over their mouth and nose during the entire test session.
  • All staff and testers will use hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the test session.
