The American Heart Association First Aid class is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life.This 5-hour course provides complete first aid and safety skills, equipping individuals to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses. You will learn how to identify and care for a variety of medical emergencies, including severe bleeding, shock, musculoskeletal injuries and other sudden illnesses, as well as how to reduce the risk of disease transmission while providing care. Course meets OSHA standard for first aid. Limited to 18 students. Bring your own snack for break time. Additional Information: CVUSD employees are not required to purchase a CPR card for District employment. Attendance verifies proof of completion. *Class held at: Castro Valley Adult School, 4430 ALma Avenue. Textbook: A classroom set of textbooks is available for in-class use only. Students who wish to purchase their own textbook may do so. Copies available for purchase at CVACE office. CPR and First Aid use same textbook.

CPR Class (American Heart Assoc.) Learn essential life-saving techniques! This CPR course will teach a combination of artificial respiration and artificial circulation for basic life support techniques. Instruction will also cover how to catch a CAB (Circulation, Airway, Breathing), the updated steps in CPR and review training for individuals requiring re-certification. Defibrillator skills are also practiced using practice AED’s. Class limited to 18 students. Textbook: A classroom set of textbooks is available for in-class use only. Do you find your mind always on the go? Would you like more peace and joy in your daily life? Would you like to learn and practice meditation and mindfulness techniques that could help you in as little as 10 minutes a day?

This essential class is designed to strengthen the core muscles surrounding your spine whether you are performing standing 3-dimensional movement or mat exercises. Challenge your core and create the wellbalanced body you’ve been looking for!

With the support of a chair, this is a gentle class that emphasizes proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, improved balance, stretch, and posture. With a seated or standing assist, you will activate the body and mind.

Gentle Yoga is designed to be an introduction to Yoga, with a mild and soft approach, dedicated to people with reduced mobility and flexibility.

Yang and Yin are the patterns of our life, and in nature all patterns are formed by opposite and complementary principles: hot and cold, active and passive, matter and energy, female and male, summer and winter, etc. A Yang/Yin class balances these contrasts in our physical and energetic body.

This is a slower-paced exercise class which will help you improve your joint flexibility, bone density, muscle strength, and balance. Exercises are done seated in a chair and standing, but no floor exercises.
