Medical Administrative Specialist

Instructor: Dasalla, Sherman

This program will prepare students for entry-level administrative work in the growing field of healthcare, by providing instruction and skill development in the daily operations of a medical office. Students will develop front office customer service skills such as: greeting patients, scheduling appointments, telephone management, and drafting correspondence. Students will also develop basic skills in billing (healthcare insurance processing), coding, medical records management, medical law and ethics, and career development.

Textbook required. Information provided at registration.

Must attend ONE of the following FREE orientations prior to registration:

  • Thursday, April 2 | 6pm - 9pm | Room 10
  • Saturday, April 4 | 9am - 12pm | Room 10
  • Tuesday, April 7 | 6pm - 9pm | Room 10

If interested in CMA/MAS, you will take a reading and math assessment. Upon successful completion, you will receive a registration appointment. Prerequisite(s): Students must have earned high school diploma or GED. Students must attend orientation (see below). Students must have basic computer and keyboarding skills. As a prerequisite for Medical Administrative Specialist, students must complete and pass “Core Skills for the Healthcare Professional.” Note(s): Successful students will be offered the opportunity to enroll in an optional Medical Administrative Specialist externship program.
