Essential Skills for Special Education Paraprofessionals

This six hour course is designed for, but not limited to current and new Special Education Paraprofessionals and Substitutes. Learn the essential knowledge and skills that will help you be successful in your role as a paraprofessional.

The course will include terminology, roles and responsibilities, awareness and understanding of various disabilities and support needs, best practices in one-to-one support, health and safety practices, positive behavior support, respectful communication and rapport with students and staff, significant laws, confidentiality, assistive technology, and basic instructional strategies.

Current CVUSD paraprofessionals can receive pink card credit upon completion of the course.

Note(s): Those who successfully complete the course will have their skills test waived when applying for a Special Education Paraprofessional Position with the Castro Valley Unified School District. No Class: 4/23
