This yoga class is designed for students with a basic understanding of the fundamental yoga poses, as well as for beginning students who are in good physical condition. Emphasis will be on using the asanas (yoga positions) to increase flexibility, balance, and strength. In addition to standing and seated poses, students will practice inversions and back bends. Sarana’s love of yoga was born in 1997 at Esalen. She regularly leads and co-leads workshops there, as well as assisting and teaching with her dear friend and mentor Thomas Fortel. Trained in a number of yoga styles, including the Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara, and Forrest Yoga traditions, Sarana is a graduate of the Piedmont Yoga Advanced Studies Program and the Forrest Yoga Teacher Training Program, and has studied kirtan (Indian devotional chanting) with renowned musician Jai Uttal.
